Frequency Control by Demand Management or more commonly known FCDM is a unique fast acting frequency response programme provided through bilateral negotiation with National Grid.
This means each service is tailored to the unique needs of the provider who can be a business or an Aggregator.
This service aims to prevent a fall in system frequency below the statutory limit of 49.5Hz.
In general, frequency does not fall below 49.70Hz unless there is an unplanned generation loss or demand increase on the system.
Ten to thirty events per year
Provide a response within 2 seconds
Deliver response for minimum 30 minutes
Deliver minimum 3MW, which may be achieved by aggregating several small loads
Suits owners of high consuming sites such as paper mills, cement kilns, waste water processing or smelting.
